North American enthusiasts heave a sigh of relief in 2014 as ALMS and Grand-Am endurance racing finally gathers beneath a single banner with the France family-operated United States Sportscar Championship with sanctioning from a resuscitated IMSA. An innovation on the part of the newly sprouted USSC involves the rating of drivers per experience and mandating the mixture of professional and privateer pilots in all classifications except for the top-tier prototype and GT categories. A class victory by Jonathan Bomarito and Canadian upstart Kuno Wittmer at Austin in September boosts SRT Motorsports with the much admired Viper GTS-R entry atop the table past season-long points leader Pratt & Miller Corvette and the team sprints away with the inaugural USSC constructors title. A third place finish in class in the season finale at the Petit Le Mans in October allows the relatively unknown Wittmer to leapfrog the established P&M pilots and narrowly secure the drivers crown in a tremendous upset result. A federal judge in February sentences former team owner Gregory Loles, partner in the Grand Am-series winning Farnbacher-Loles Porsche 911 GT entries of the late 2000s decade, to twenty-five years for swindling nearly $30 Million USD from unsuspecting investors and spending the same upon a lavish lifestyle that included the financing of his well-prepared Porsche racing operation. The Pratt & Miller Corvette beneath Jan Magnussen and Antonio GarcĂa win four consecutive USSC events between mid-April and mid-July.

HeM applies the Putative Model to all racing seasons for two primary purposes: First, to effectively normalize all racing seasons for empirical comparison across the decades, and second, to step clear of series organizers which score season championships primarily out of commercial interest or to attract manufacturer participation. The Putative Model simply scores all seasons in the same fashion as a standard track and field meeting, with the only purpose of tracking what takes place at the finishing stripe If the Putative Champion differs from the nominal Series Champion, please note the (SC) notation below.
