Stratagraph Racing with its Camaro stretches out to a wide margin lead early in the 1984 IMSA GT season, yet requires a victory in the season finale at Daytona in November to hold off hard charging Electrodyne Porsche for its maiden putative GTO constructors' title. The IMSA points system inexplicably awards Roger Mandeville with the drivers' championship, yet Stratagraph driver Gene Felton must fend off Electrodyne pilot Chester Vincentz to secure the GTO drivers' crown per the putative model. USA Olympic decathlon Bruce Jenner picks up a second place finish in class at Michigan in September. Willy T. Ribbs becomes the first driver of African descent to claim an IMSA class victory in the season finale at Daytona in November.

HeM applies the Putative Model to all racing seasons for two primary purposes: First, to effectively normalize all racing seasons for empirical comparison across the decades, and second, to step clear of series organizers which score season championships primarily out of commercial interest or to attract manufacturer participation. The Putative Model simply scores all seasons in the same fashion as a standard track and field meeting, with the only purpose of tracking what takes place at the finishing stripe If the Putative Champion differs from the nominal Series Champion, please note the (SC) notation below.
