The AIACR in 1925 establishes a standardized racing series referred to as the World Manufacturers Championship aimed at fostering Grand Prix competition among the major European automotive makes. ALFA Romeo with its P2 8C/2000 wins the first national championship racing series in motorsports history as Giuseppe Campari claims the Grand Prix putative drivers' title for the second consecutive season. The Belgian Grand Prix runs at Spa-Francorchamps for the first time in June. Departures: Antonio Ascari, 36, b. Bonferraro, Italy 1888, d. GP France, Montlhéry, July. Pierre (Paul) Torchy, 28, b. HeM applies the Putative Model to all racing seasons for two primary purposes: First, to effectively normalize all racing seasons for empirical comparison across the decades, and second, to step clear of series organizers which score season championships primarily out of commercial interest or to attract manufacturer participation. The Putative Model simply scores all seasons in the same fashion as a standard track and field meeting, with the only purpose of tracking what takes place at the finishing stripe If the Putative Champion differs from the nominal Series Champion, please note the (SC) notation below.
