No major Grand Prix events take place during the 1918 racing season. The German Empire launches a desperate offensive against the Russians in February. German Empire launches major offensive against the Allies at the Somme in March. Allied forces repel Germans at the Marne in June. Russian Bolsheviks summarily execute the Romanov royal family in July. Allied forces drive Germans back across the Hindenburg Line in September. Both Austro-Hungarian and German Empires collapse in October as German sovereign Wilhelm II abdicates the throne. Peace negotiations prompt mass civil unrest within the German military in October. Allies and the German Empire agree to an armistice in November. USA forces enter Germany in December. New Racing Makes: Italian Officine Meccaniche.

HeM applies the Putative Model to all racing seasons for two primary purposes: First, to effectively normalize all racing seasons for empirical comparison across the decades, and second, to step clear of series organizers which score season championships primarily out of commercial interest or to attract manufacturer participation. The Putative Model simply scores all seasons in the same fashion as a standard track and field meeting, with the only purpose of tracking what takes place at the finishing stripe If the Putative Champion differs from the nominal Series Champion, please note the (SC) notation below.
